On Friday 27th March 2015 our Steering Group held a ‘Clark Contracts Bake Off’. Colleagues were invited to bring in their home baking giving Mary Berry cause for concern in order to raise money for our local nominated charity, The Accord Hospice.
Ken Mathie, Fundraising Manager and Julieann McHale both from the Accord Hospice were invited to our head office to complete a taste test and choose the winning baker! After sampling the various cakes on offer, the salted caramel cheesecake with dark chocolate topping was selected as the winner. Other close contenders included a Dr Who Dalek, Clark Contracts Sponge Cake and an Accord Hospice chocolate cake with over 30 entries into the competition in total. Following the announcement of the winner, colleagues were invited to buy cakes in exchange for a donation. The total raised reached £250 which the company matched bringing the total to £500 which was donated to The Accord Hospice for whom we have raised over £10k since 2006.
Ken Mathie of the Accord Hospice said “Both Julieann and I were thrilled to be able to come along and judge the Bake Off Competition. In fact just as we were getting started I said to Julieann ‘I love my job!’. It was without doubt one of the most enjoyable tasks I’ve had to undertake – it was hard work but someone’s got to do it!
It was very difficult to choose as there honestly wasn’t one we didn’t like, however after much deliberation we were able to pick a winner.
It was wonderful to witness the enthusiasm of the staff in their desire to support ACCORD and I would like to thank you all for raising the wonderful sum of £500.”
