Building firm Clark Contracts continues to defy the construction sector gloom, securing twin deals with the University of Edinburgh worth a combined £1.3 million.
The larger contract, for £795,000, will see the company carry out fit-out work at the James Clerk Maxwell building, home to the university’s school of physics and astronomy. The work is expected to be completed in September.
The second contract, worth £510,000, is for the creation of a student common room and associated works in the city’s Robertson’s Close, where the university provides self-catering accommodation for more than 200 students. That work is due for completion by November.
Both contracts were awarded after a competitive tendering process, conducted through the university’s main contractor framework.
Gordon Cunningham, managing director of Clark Contracts, said: “Since its establishment, our east Scotland office has made a significant and growing contribution to our business and these two contracts are the latest examples.”
Founded in 1978, the firm has grown to employ more than 200 staff at offices in Paisley, covering the west of the country, and Edinburgh, which focuses on work in the east. Some 80 per cent of its work is said to come from repeat business.
