Clark Contracts is Developing the Young Workforce

DYW Award (2)

Clark Contracts has been working in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce – West Region to deliver work experience placements and career information for local school pupils through its Academy.

As a result, the construction, refurbishment and maintenance contractor has been presented with a recognition award from Developing the Young Workforce acknowledging its commitment to investing in new talent.

In the last 12 months Clark Contracts has provided work experience for 9 individuals across various roles including administration, quantity surveying, joinery and accounting. The week long work experience placement provides pupils with an insight into working in the construction industry. They are partnered up with an experienced employee and given a taste of what their role involves on a daily basis.

As a result of this work experience, one pupil applied for and was offered a quantity surveying traineeship and another continued their work experience two days per week during their last year of school.

It is hoped many of the others will apply for positions at Clark Contracts when they are ready to leave school and start their careers.

In addition, Clark Contracts has supported the Developing Young Workforce agenda by attending local careers events at Eastwood, Woodfarm, Renfrew, St Lukes, Park Mains, Linwood, Barrhead and Castlehead High Schools and Lenzie Academy in the last 12 months. These events have included mock interviews, careers evenings and industry awareness days.

Clark Contracts also hosts its own annual careers evenings which offer an opportunity for potential candidates to find out more about joining the Clark Contracts Academy which provides individuals with the chance to work in their chosen discipline and gain a formal qualification at the same time.

David Cooper, Academy Manager, Clark Contracts, said “It is fantastic to receive this recognition from Developing the Young Workforce as a result of our Academy’s work in providing career information and experience for local school pupils“.

Clark Contracts was awarded the Training Excellence award at the 2017 Construction News Awards and was named Skills Development Scotland’s Youth Employer of the Month in May 2017. The company has also been shortlisted for the Skills Initiative of the Year award at the Building Magazine awards, the Training and Development award at Business Insider’s Scotland’s Best Employer awards and the Excellence in Learning and Development award at the Construction News Investing in Talent awards with the winners due to be announced in November.
