Local contractor completes £8.5m refurbishment of Johnstone High
25 January 2010
A local Paisley company whose commercial director is a former pupil of Johnstone High has completed an £8.5million contract for the refurbishment of the school.
The 18 month contract on behalf of Renfrewshire Council was completed on time and on budget by Clark Contracts who had previously completed a similar contract at Castlehead High.
Iain Blair, who attended Johnstone High in 1974 until 1979 said it gave him “a special sense of pride and satisfaction” to have been involved with the project. “On a personal note, it was very satisfactory to work on a programme which has completely transformed my former school and equipped it for today’s educational challenges.
“From the business standpoint of our company, Clark Contracts, it’s gratifying that a Renfrewshire-based company with over 30 years of history in the area has been the main contractor on a major project that will deliver so much for the local community.
“It’s also been a boost for the Renfrewshire economy and job market that our well-established network of subcontractors rose to the challenge of what has been a large, demanding project, delivering a truly local solution to the council’s requirements.”
Around £4million of work was subcontracted to Renfrewshire firms on the Johnstone High contract which included a range of improvements to the school including the complete renewal of mechanical and electrical services, installation of a new lift, and complete internal redecoration.
