Schools projects add up to £40m for builder

A PAISLEY building firm has got its sums right by focusing on school work.

Clark Contracts has announced new contracts which will the classroom-based to almost £40 million since 2005.

And the company is now swatting for another successful year by taking the wraps off three more school programmes. Next month it will begin a £450,000 window replacement contract at Paisley Grammar School awarded by Renfrewshire Council. Another contract, worth £400,000, is from South Ayrshire Council for the refurbishment of Kincaidston Primary School in Ayr.

A third, valued at £1.3m, is from West Lothian Council to build an extension at Longridge Primary in Bathgate. Managing director Gordon Cunningham said: "We are very proud of our long established track record of working successfully on schools.

"Our most recently completed school project is the £8.5m refurbishment of Johnstone High School for Renfrewshire Council which followed the successful £7.6m refurbishment of Castlehead High School and the £1.1m extension at Houston Primary School.

"Whether it is a newbuild project, extension or refurbishment of an existing facility, the experience we have gained is invaluable.

"On every project, we work hard to bring that experience to bear so that we can deliver a quality job on time and on budget."

West of Scotland based Clark Contracts has enjoyed continuous growth since being founded in 1978. It has a 200-strong workforce and an office in Edinburgh to deal with east coast contracts.

The firm has worked on more than 500 projects across Scotland's education sector including universities and colleges.

About 80% of the work is repeat business.
