Works begin at 84 George Street

The Northern Lighthouse Board’s Headquarters at the Category A listed 84 George Street, Edinburgh is being refurbished by Clark Contracts.
 
A new customer for Clark Contracts, the Northern Lighthouse Board, founded in 1786, are the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man and are responsible for the provision of all lighthouses and associated marine navigation equipment throughout these areas.
 
The traditional Georgian building, will undergo a £1.1m refurbishment which involves the conversion of the existing basement to create new, modern conference space and the adaptation of office areas throughout the 3-storey building to meet modern requirements. The basement roof will also be completely removed and replaced to upgrade the building.
 
84 George Street is the core of the organisation’s operations, with Human Resources, Health and Safety, PR, Administration, IT and Finance based here. The building is also home to the ‘Monitor Centre’ which oversees all lighthouses within the board’s operational areas via land-lines and radio links.
 
Clark Contracts are currently delivering over £15m of work in the East of Scotland and recently expanded their office space in Rosewell House, Newbridge to provide additional space as they continue to grow.
