Scottish Business Award

Clark Contracts has been nominated for the Employer of the Year Award at Scotland’s most prestigious business awards. In the final of the Scottish Business Awards 2014, the Paisley based construction, refurbishment and maintenance contractor is up against strong competition with fellow nominees including Scottish Gas, Amec and the Wood Group, all selected due to their creation of an environment where employees can thrive and achieve excellence.

Clark Contracts delivers 33% more training days per employee than its industry standard, personal development needs are identified for all employees and vocational qualifications are pursued at every level in the company from apprentices to directors.

The company grows its own graduates by sponsoring employees to take degrees with 16 staff graduating over the past 5 years. They also host regular work experience placements for school pupils, over 30 trade apprentices have been recruited in the past 10 years and they sponsor undergraduate awards at Glasgow Caledonian University.

In addition, they also  participate in the Training for Work Scheme where over 20 work experience/training placements have been offered in the last 2 years  with a number of trainees going on to secure permanent positions.

Gordon Cunningham, Managing Director of Clark Contracts said “We believe that this this nomination is an endorsement of our continued investment in people throughout the economic downturn. It is a great honour for us to be nominated alongside some of the biggest names on the Scottish business scene and we are also eagerly looking forward to the final decision being announced in May”.

The awards ceremony, sponsored by Virgin Money, will take place on May 12th at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and will be hosted by comedian Michael McIntyre and attended by Sir Richard Branson who will be participating in an open Q&A session.  This year’s dinner is expected to be the largest formal dinner gathering in Scottish history, with over 1,600 attendees breaking the previous record held since 1567 for the coronation of King James VI. Proceeds raised from the event will be donated to Scottish Business and the Community and Virgin Unite.
